St. Margaret's girls lacrosse picked up a key late-season win over hosts Newbury Park, defeating the Panthers 16-12 Tuesday evening. The Tartans battled to a 9-9 tie with 18 minutes left to play and relied on clutch defensive stands and generated key turnovers to down the Panthers.
Lauren Lam led with 4 goals while Elise Peffer contributed 3 goals and a caused turnover. Scarlett Welsome bolstered the defense with 4 caused turnovers, 5 ground balls, 2 goals and 1 assist. Minka Martinez kept the Tartans in posession with 7 draw controls, 2 goals, 7 assists and 2 ground balls. Also finding the net for the Tartans: Greta Blau (2g, 2gb), Avery Smith (2g, 2gb, 1 ct) and Grace Burke (1g, 3a, 4gb, 1ct). Goaltender Kaitlin McRae made 3 saves in the win.
St. Margaret's will next take on Corona del Mar at home on Thursday, April 27.
