St. Margaret's picked up wins against Pacifica Christian and Saddleback Valley Christian last week, propelling the Tartans to the top of the league standings.
Against Pacifica Christian, the Tartans were led by goalkeeper Kennedy Barlow's clean sheet, as she notched her fifth shutout on the season. Bryce Chan, Andi Carnell and Sam Hasani scored for St. Margaret's with asists by Taylor Nock and Ella Kang.
On Friday, St. Margaret's defeated Saddleback Valley Christian 9-0. The Tartans had nine different goal scorers, led by Ella Kang (1g, 2a) and Taylor Nock (1g, 1a). Charlotte Jones, Campbell Case, Allie Binder, Molly Green, Julia Olosky, Audrey Larson and Indigo Agan all contributed to the score sheet while Kennedy Barlow recorded her sixth shutout in seven games. Barlow has only allowed one goal on the season.
The Tartans are 5-0-2 overall, 2-0 in the San Joaquin League and are currently ranked No. 2 in CIF-SS Division 4 and will take on longtime rivals No. 8 Valley Christian on Friday, Dec. 21. St. Margaret’s and Valley Christian have played 19 times since 2000 and the series record stands 7-6-6 with the slight edge going to the Tartans.
The Tartans upset an undefeated Irvine High School 2-1 last Friday. Tomas Anderson-Comas opened up the scoring in the 22nd minute with a great assist from Dean Chong before the Vaqueros added the equalizer before halftime. Anderson-Comas scored the game-winner in the 57th minute, capitalizing off an error committed by a defender, bringing Irvine's win streak to an end.
"The Tartans had a great performance against a very competitive team with Ian Schulz making several crucial saves to ensure the win for the Tartans," said head coach Peter Carey.
St. Margaret sits at 5-1 (1-0 in the league after defeating The Webb School on Dec. 11.) and will travel to take on Valley Christian on Friday, December 21.
