St. Margaret's Basketball Programs Continue to Roll

The Tartans have been tenacious on the hardwood through the early season.
Girls Basketball

The Tartans are currently 10-1 after a 56-33 win over Capistrano Valley Christian on Monday evening. Maddie Barkate led St. Margaret's with 30 points, six rebounds and eight steals. Niki Miles contributed 15 points, seven assists and five steals in the win.

"The girls have continued to dominate with a strong defense but will face some very tough teams in the next couple of days ," said head coach Nicole Riscica. "The girls have been working hard on the court and off creating a strong team chemistry over this busy time period. "

The team will face off against Fairmont Prep on Friday evening and travel to Avalon High School on Saturday morning. The Tartans will close out the calendar year competing at the Tri-City Christian Holiday Tournament in San Diego.

Boys Basketball

St. Margaret's traveled to Downey to take on Calvary Chapel, bringing home a 56-33 league win. The Tartans have been led by Jack Wohlgemuth (14 points per game, 5 rebounds per game), Will Kenner (13 ppg, 4 apg) and Trevor Camp (6 rpg). Lewis Smith has been shooting 44 percent from behind the three-point circle while Charlie Wohlgemuth averages two steals per game.

"We are currently 7-7 overall and 1-0 in the Academy League with a big league away game Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Webb," said head coach Brian Carmer. "The boys have improved to 6-3 over the last two weeks and are playing better each game."

The Tartans are looking to pick up their second league win Friday against The Webb School before competing in the Tri-City Chrisitan Holiday Tournament over the break.
