Tartans Ranked Among the Top in Early-Season CIF Polls

Cross country, volleyball and football are all ranked in the top ten.
The CIF Southern Section divisional rankings are out and St. Margaret's is recognized in the top 10 in three sports.

Cross Country

The Tartans are looking to improve on their 2017 results which included Academy League Championships and trips to the CIF State Finals. Both St. Margaret's squads are currently ranked No. 1 in Division V.

Head coach Patrick Bendzick said, “It was challenging to open the season at the Cool Breeze Invitational, in a race that consisted of 38 Southern Section ranked teams across all divisions.  But the hard work the athletes did over the summer paid dividends and their top rankings this week’s CIF Polls are a direct reflection of that dedication.  We are off to an exciting start to the season, and the coaching staff is incredibly proud of how the athletes competed at this elite level.”

Volleyball

St. Margaret's is currently 2-3, but that record does not reflect the level of play or the level of competition experienced by the Tartans. Despite losses to Inter-Divisional opponents Beckman, Foothill and Capistrano Valley, the Tartans have held their own on the court. Following a Division II Championship at the Dave Mohs Tournament, the Division IV No. 1-ranked Tartans look on cross-town rival Saddleback Valley Christian on the road Thursday, September 13, winning 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20).

Football

The Division VI No. 3 Tartans followed up a close 13-12 loss to Division IV No. 1 Grace Brethren with a 41-7 romp over visiting Salesian High on September 7. St. Margaret's will travel to San Diego to take on The Bishop's School on Saturday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m.
