Boys and Girls Lacrosse Headed to Orange County Championships

Both Tartan lacrosse programs are headed to the Orange County Finals Wednesday evening after making it through their Semifinal matches.
Girls Lacrosse
The Tartans turned in a polished performance, dominating the Trabuco Hills Mustangs 16-8 at Segerstrom High School on Saturday afternoon. Junior Maddie Barkate led scorers with four goals while Cailin Young, Campbell Case and Jordan Miles each tallied three on the day.
St. Margaret's will take on 2017 U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section Champion Mater Dei on Wednesday, May 9 at Irvine High School. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
Boys Lacrosse
St. Margaret's came out on top, 8-6, in a defensive struggle against a surging Santa Margarita team. Both squads traded goals most of the afternoon, with either team never leading by more than two goals.
Speedy midfielder Tomas Anderson Comas led the Tartans with three goals and tremendous hustle down the stretch. Kevin Groeninger added two goals, while Stuart Pollard, Nico Vorzimer and Trevor Peay each had one. Pollard combined efforts with Chris Totah to dominate at the X, winning 12 of 16.
The drama of the afternoon was punctuated with a penalty to netminder Zach Handy in the last 30 seconds of the game with the Tartans leading 7-6. The personal foul forced back-up keeper Nico Vorzimer into the game to face a Santa Margarita man-up opportunity. Vorzimer made a clutch low save as time ticked away, clearing the ball straight into the opposing empty goal as the final horn blew.
The Tartans will face off against perennial powerhouse Foothill High School at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at Irvine High School. St. Margaret's is looking to capture its first championship since 2015.
