St. Margaret's Student-Athletes Commit to Colleges Across the Nation During Winter National Signing Day

St. Margaret's Episcopal School is pleased to announce that four student-athletes from the Class of 2018 committed to play intercollegiate athletics next year during the winter National Signing Day. Seniors Conrad Hampson, Lauren McCaffrey, Andrew Maita and Sophie Payne will continue their academic pursuits, as well as play their respective sport, at an impressive group of colleges and universities.

These student-athletes will join five of their classmates who committed during the signing period during the fall.

Conrad Hampson, Colby College

Conrad Hampson will study and play lacrosse at NCAA Division-III Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

Conrad has been a member of St. Margaret's varsity lacrosse program for four years and played on the 2015 U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section Championship team. Conrad also has competed for Victory Lacrosse, SoCal Express and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes National Lacrosse Team.

At St. Margaret's, Conrad was also a member of the 2015 CIF finalist Tartan cross country team.

Lauren McCaffrey, Northwestern University

Lauren McCaffrey will study and play soccer at NCAA Division-I Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Lauren, a four-year member of the Tartan varsity soccer team and current captain, was named second-team All-Academy League her sophomore season. Following the 2016-2017 campaign, Lauren was named to the NSCAA All-West Region team, first team All-CIF, first team All-Academy League and Academy League MVP.

Also at St. Margaret's, Lauren has competed for the Tartan cross country team and was named to the All-State freshman cross country team in 2014. Lauren's track and field accomplishments include ranking in the top 10 at St. Margaret's in the 100, 300, 400, 800, 4x100 and discus. In 2017, Lauren was on the 4x400 relay team which advanced to the state final, finishing fifth with a school record time.

Lauren's club soccer career includes a six-time invitation to the U.S. Soccer Training Center, winning the Surf Cup and a member of the No. 8 nationally ranked ECNL Championship team.

Lauren has worked with the Service Pilot team at St. Margaret's her junior year.

Andrew Maita, Washington and Lee University

Andrew Maita will study and play lacrosse at NCAA Division-III Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.

Andrew, a three-year starting defenseman and two-year varsity captain, has been a member of the 2015 U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section champion Tartan varsity lacrosse team for four years.

At the club level, Andrew was a member of the Victory Lacrosse 2017 Box Lacrosse League champions and 2016 War at the Shore, 2017 Malibu Meltdown and 2018 Air Station Shootout championship teams.

Andrew has volunteered at the Emerald Cove day camp and with Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano.

Andrew intends to major in business and economics at Washington and Lee.

Sophie Payne, Oberlin College

Sophie Payne will study and play soccer at NCAA Division-III Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.

Sophie has been a member of St. Margaret's varsity soccer program for four years and has competed at the club level for 11 years, recently as a member of the Cal South National Cup Champions in 2017.

Sophie has been a Special Camp for Special Kids staff member for the past two years and volunteer counselor in 2014 and 2015. Sophie has logged 340 community service hours with the National Charity League since 2013.
"This event is always an opportunity for reflection. For many, we remember the influential coaches that changed our lives and the great teammates that helped us along the way. We are extremely proud of our athletes and appreciative of the support systems that have helped get them to this level," remarked Director of Athletics and Physical Education Patrick Bendzick.
