SMES Alumnus Austin Russell Named to Forbes ’30 Under 30’ List
Mr. Russell is founder and CEO of Luminar Technologies, which is developing laser-based radar sensors (called lidar) for self-driving vehicles.
St. Margaret’s alumnus Austin Russell ’13 was recently named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30 Manufacturing” list for 2018.
Mr. Russell is founder and CEO of Luminar Technologies, which is developing laser-based radar sensors (called lidar) for self-driving vehicles. He launched the company as a 17-year-old.
At 22, Mr. Russell is one of the youngest innovators on Forbes’ 30-under-30 list. His company has raised $36 million and employs more than 250 people. It is headquartered in Silicon Valley.
“From day one I’ve always wondered the how and why of the way things worked,” Mr. Russell said. “I’ve always wanted to build technology not just for the sake of building technology, but to build something that adds value to the world.”
