St. Margaret's Cross Country Teams Advance to CIF State Finals

Boys and girls squads combine for one of the best finishes in school history.
For the second consecutive year, both Tartan cross country squads have advanced to the California State Championships. The effort produced one of the best combined finishes in school history, and both are poised to make a significant impact at the state level.

Andi Carnell once again led the Tartan girls with a third-place finish as she earned All-CIF honors with teammate Charlotte Jones (13th). The duo set the tempo for the Tartans in the early stages of the race and pulled Senior Daisy Sellas into position to make a significant impact on the team scoring. Sellas shaved 1:08 from her time on the course last year to move up 14 places after the halfway point and finish 21st overall. Madeline Arundale and Audrey Larson rounded out the scoring five and helped post a team time that was 2:25 faster than the previous year.

Robbie Graham and Matt Soto assumed their regular role at the front of the pack for the boys team and finished just .4 seconds apart in 17th and 18th respectively. The 41-second gap between scoring runners moved the Tartans into qualifying position late in the second mile as Christopher Chan charged over the final meters to close on teammate Calvin Capelle. That pair was also separated by under a second to solidify the 4th-place finish.
