Tartans Outlast Valley Christian for 32-22 Home Win

The Tartans had to contend with a multi-faceted running game to defeat a tough Valley Christian squad on Tartan Field Friday night. St. Margaret's never trailed in the ball game but found themselves tied with the Crusaders mid way through the fourth quarter. A brilliant defensive stand by the Tartans and a costly turnover by the Crusaders sealed the game for St. Margaret's
Offensively, quarterback James Mott was 16/28 with 190 yards passing and three touchdowns. Reciever Ryan Cragun was Mott's favorite target on the night, pulling down 11 receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow receiver Roger Penske had three receptions for 42 yards and one touchdown. Halfback Marcus Knight led the rushing attack with 70 yards on 14 attempts with one touchdown.
Defensively, the Tartans were led by Langston Sholl (3 tackles, 3 assists, 1 sack and 2 tackles for loss), Caden Smith (2 tackles, 2 assists, 1 sack and 2 tackles for loss), Michael Chew (4 tackles and 1 assist) and Roger Penske (1 sack and 1 tackle for loss). Defensive back Nathan Sanchez added 2 tackles and an interception while defensive end Max Martinez had a key fumble recovery.
The Tartans will match up against The Bishop's School of La Jolla next Friday at 7 p.m. on Tartan Field.
