Tartans Open Fall Sports Season

St. Margaret's fall sports season is underway this week as football, golf, volleyball and tennis all saw action.
Football

The Tartans, fresh off of a 34-14 road win over Kealakehe High of Hawaii, faced off against Calvary Chapel Santa Ana on Thursday night. Led by quarterback James Mott's 218 yards and three touchdowns, St. Margaret's downed the Eagles 41-0 in the non-league contest. The Tartan receiving corps had a big game with Ryan Cragun posting three receptions for 87 yards while Marcus Knight (6 receptions for 82 yards), Roger Penske (3 for 43) and Caden Smith (1 for 31) all caught a touchdown on the night.

Defensively, the Tartans were led by Roger Penske (two sacks and two tackles for losses) and lineman Max Martinez (one sack and one tackle for loss). Defensive back Nathan Sanchez pulled down an interception to help preserve the shutout for the Tartans.

Golf

St. Margaret's opened the 2017 campaign with a close 276-260 loss to San Juan Hills High School on Monday. Marissa Mitchell was the medalist, shooting a 44. The Tartans went on to rebound on Tuesday, and finishing tied 267-267 with Tustin High School at Marbella Country Club.

Volleyball

The Tartans opened their season on Tuesday, facing off against a tough Saddleback Valley Christian squad. The Tartans lost a hard-fought match 16-25, 21-25, 18-25. On Thursday, St. Margaret's returned to their home court to square off another local rival, Capistrano Valley High School, falling 25-27, 17-25, 19-25.

The Tartans will look to start their Academy League schedule on the right foot as they match up against Whitney High, Wednesday, September 6, 5 p.m. in the Pasternack Fieldhouse.

Tennis
 
St. Margaret's took on an experienced San Clemente team on the road Tuesday to start the season. Despite the losing result (3-15), the doubles team of Seychelle Balog and Natalie Kowal downed the San Clemente No. 2 team to pick up some much-needed points for the Tartans.
 
The girls will return to action on Tuesday, September 5 against Canyon High School.
