Tartan Cross Country Teams Advance to CIF State Finals

The Tartans will compete at the State Championships on November 26 in Fresno.
Of the almost 600 schools in the CIF Southern Section, only 16 advanced both boys' and girls' programs to the CIF-SS Finals. It was a goal set over a year ago, and the combined support proved invaluable in what is often regarded as the toughest regional championship in the nation.

The boys race opened the day with some adversity after several runners took a tumble in the first 800 meter, but the strong leadership of Nic Gitter held together the young squad as the Tartans finished 5th in a very deep Division 5 field. Their team time of 1:21:47 was over a minute faster than the previous week and over 3:30 faster than their best time on the course in 2015. Matt Soto and Luke Gitter proved to be the difference-maker, as both had season best performances of 16:20 and 16:26 respectively.

The girl's team continued to surprise the division by taking third place with a team time of 1:38:50. That was an improvement of 3:21 from the previous week and 6:33 from 2015. Julia Martin and Charlotte Jones emerged amongst the division elite as they both crossed the line in 19:02, and for the second week in a row, Shea Hueston ran a season-best time (20:37) to close out the scoring for the Tartans.

The team will travel to Fresno on Thanksgiving weekend to compete in the California State Championships at Woodward Park on Saturday.
