Tartans Explode in Second Half for 70-41 Win Over Whittier Christian

St. Margaret's scored 44 points in the second half to overcome visiting Whittier Christian 70-41 on Tartan Field Friday night.
In a battle that saw the lead change four times, the Tartans persevered against the vaunted passing attack of the Whittier Christian Herald's quarterback, Quinn Commans. Commans threw for 392 yards, with six touchdowns on 29 of 43 attempts. St. Margaret's senior George Krantz matched the performance step for step, amassing four touchdown passes with 259 yards in the air on 16 of 20 attempts. Krantz also added three rushing touchdowns in the win.

On the ground, the Tartan offense seemed unstoppable with senior running back Nick Krantz totaling three touchdowns with 128 yards on 14 carries. Sophomore back Koa Todd had a rushing and receiving touchdown with 21 yards on the ground and 42 yards through the air.

The Tartan receivers also had a big night with senior Auston Locke pulling in four catches for 121 yards as junior Ryan Cragun had two touchdowns on four catches for 65 yards.

Defensively, the Tartans struggled to contain the Herald's passing game in the first half, but bright spots were provided by senior James Eidt's three sacks and three tackles for losses and senior Logan Smith's sack and stellar outside linebacker play.

Head Coach Stephen Barbee remarked about the win, "We knew if we could get a couple of defensive stops in the second half, we could come out on top. The defense really provided the catalyst to get our offense in motion to rattle off 44 points in the last half of the game."

The 5-1 Tartans head to San Diego to face Sweetwater High on Friday, October 7.
