Grade 1 and 8 students worked collaboratively this week to show our service members how much they are appreciated. Students wrote thank you letters to those serving overseas in the Armed Forces. The cards will be used by Words of Comfort, Hope and Promise, a group which works to honor and support our soldiers. The group is currently preparing Easter care packages for the service members and the personal notes from St. Margaret’s students will be included in each one.

Prior to the service project, grade 1 students in each class read the book “Love, Lizzie” by Lisa Tucker McElroy. “The book is a wonderful and age appropriate way to explain that service people often are away from home for long lengths of time, and messages, cards and packages from home can be a dear comfort,” said Lower School Activities Director Tupper Spring.

“Bravery, strength, hope and courage; everyone who has served and is serving for our country shows all of these characteristics and many other incredible ones that have changed our nation forever. I feel that sometimes veterans don't feel we are always thankful for all of the things they have done for us, which is why doing projects like, making thank you cards, is so important to do. I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to make these cards and show my thanks to the people who risked their lives for our country. The love that is put into the cards my peers and I got to make radiates into the lives of these soldiers and it feels so amazing to spread the generosity to people who did so much for me,” said Kennedy Barlow, grade 8.
