Grade 4 Team Takes First Place in Algebraic Thinking at Math Field Day
Ten St. Margaret’s grade 4 and 5 students competed against 36 other schools from throughout Orange County in this year’s Math Field Day competition on Saturday. The St. Margaret’s grade 4 team received first place in algebraic thinking.
Ten St. Margaret’s grade 4 and 5 students competed against 36 other schools from throughout Orange County in this year’s Math Field Day competition on Saturday. The St. Margaret’s grade 4 team received first place in algebraic thinking, second place finishes in geometry and data analysis, fourth place in numbers and operations and fifth place in measurement. The grade 5 team also placed fifth in geometry.
On the day of the competition, students competed in the following categories/contests: number sense; measurement and geometry; algebra and functions; statistics, data analysis and probability; and mathematical reasoning.
Grade 4 team: Sophia Bunnell, Radley Copps, Fiona Lee, Kaitlin McRae and Cole Roberts
Grade 5 team: Alden Copps, Aili McGregor, Aidan Rashtchi, Devin Thomas and Celeste Windes
The all-day math competition is an annual event for students in grades 4, 5 and 6 sponsored by the Orange County Math Council. It is an opportunity for Orange County elementary schools to join together in promoting excellence in mathematics, team work, achieving goals and school spirit.
