The Lower School celebrated Diwali with a week of campus activities highlighting the holiday's traditions, cultural significance and message of light overcoming darkness. In the Lower School, students participated in discussions, presentations, hands-on activities and a special Tartan Table menu as St. Margaret’s recognized the Festival of Lights.

The week began with Lower School student conversations about Diwali, exploring the holiday's significance and how families observe its traditions. Mid-week, during Chapel, members of the Middle School RISE (Respect, Include, Shine, Empower) leadership group led a special homily highlighting the meaning and traditions of Diwali. The presentation, led by Anaya Shah (‘31) and Shanti Patel (‘31), introduced students to the holiday's traditions and meaning.

As the week unfolded, additional activities included making diyas on the Lower School playground and in the Outdoor Classroom. Diyas, small traditional oil lamps, are commonly used during Diwali celebrations and symbolize the triumph of light over darkness. The week concluded on Friday with classroom presentations in select grades, a Diwali music playlist and festive decorations in the dining areas.

The celebration also extended to the Tartan Table dining menu, where Lower School students enjoyed mango lassi and a variety of Indian-inspired dishes for lunch. The menu featured traditional favorites, including lentil and chickpea soups, paneer makhani, chicken vindaloo and cabbage poriyal, offering students another opportunity to experience the flavors of Diwali.
