As an extension of the classroom, our athletic teams are committed to remaining at the forefront of innovation and progressive leadership so that our student-athletes may achieve at the highest possible level.
At St. Margaret’s, students are encouraged to explore their own interests in this vibrant, close-knit community, and Tartans seek opportunities for growth in athletics, the arts, service learning, leadership and more.
Former St. Margaret’s Volleyball Coach and Athletic Director Susie Maga Inducted Into CIF-SS Hall of Fame

Susie Maga, a pillar of Tartan athletics for two decades, was honored with induction into the CIF-Southern Section Hall of Fame, a tribute to her many accomplishments as a coach and administrator at St. Margaret’s. A ceremony for the 42nd class of CIF-SS Hall of Fame inductees took place this week in Long Beach.
Mrs. Maga made her mark as St. Margaret’s head coach of both girls volleyball (1996-2015) and boys volleyball (1995-2003), with both programs reaching new heights under her leadership.
The girls volleyball team compiled a 367-108 record during her tenure, with six CIF-SS championships (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2010 and 2012). The boys volleyball program won the 2001 CIF championship under Maga’s direction as well, making her one of five coaches to win CIF-SS in boys and girls volleyball in the same year. She remains the only woman to accomplish this feat.
In addition, Maga was St. Margaret’s athletic director from 2006 to 2015, overseeing unprecedented success in Tartan athletics that included 23 CIF championships, four state championships and 100 league titles.
A native of Long Beach, Mrs. Maga was an outstanding softball and volleyball player at Millikan High School, and was an NAIA All-American in volleyball at Westmont College. She was an assistant volleyball and softball coach at the college level for a couple of years before joining St. Margaret’s in 1994. In addition to her success as St. Margaret’s volleyball coach, Mrs. Maga also coached softball, girls soccer in the Upper School as well as Middle School girls and boys volleyball and boys basketball.
“I was able to either play or coach in the CIF Southern Section for more than 30 years,” Mrs. Maga said in a video recognizing her induction. “To have my name placed alongside the legends of this great section is a privilege I do not take lightly.”
Mrs. Maga joins her father, Bill Odell, in the CIF-SS Hall of Fame. They are the only father-daughter duo ever inducted.
