St. Margaret’s Awarded 7-Year Accreditation by CAIS and WASC
The California Association of Independent Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges awarded St. Margaret’s a seven-year accreditation, following the completion of a multi-year process.
The California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) awarded St. Margaret’s a seven-year accreditation, following the completion of a multi-year process that included a self-study and visits from peer educators.
A seven-year accreditation is the longest awarded by CAIS and WASC and will last through the 2032-2033 school year.
The school was praised by the visiting CAIS/WASC accreditation team, which highlighted a number of strengths in the St. Margaret’s program, including:
- The school’s mission and core values and their presence in all aspects of school life.
- An innovative academic program supported by caring teachers who are deeply engaged in their work.
- Consistently full enrollment and low attrition.
- St. Margaret’s campus, noted as “outstanding aesthetically, functionally and environmentally.”
- Significant endowment growth and financial strength and sustainability.
“A seven-year accreditation reflects the extraordinary work done every day at St. Margaret’s to educate the hearts and minds of young people for lives of learning, leadership, and service,” Head of School Dr. Jeneen Graham said. “This great news validates the efforts of our amazing professional community, the leadership of our administration, the vision of our Board of Trustees and the dedication and support of our families, all of whom strive to fulfill St. Margaret’s mission, core values and strategic direction.
“I also want to extend a special thank you to Director of Institutional Research, Dr. Stephanie Capen, for her amazing job in leading us through this rigorous, multi-year process.”
As part of the accreditation process, St. Margaret’s completed a thorough 226-page self-study detailing every aspect of the school, written as a collaboration by every faculty and staff member on campus and led by 18 steering committee members. The self-study took two years to compile and write, and was submitted to CAIS and WASC in December.
Upon completion of the self-study, the final step was a visit by the accreditation team over four days in January. The team, made up of peer educators from schools across California, observed all parts of the school’s academic curriculum, innovative programs and student life. They also held meetings with members of the St. Margaret’s community including school leaders, faculty students, PTF leadership, chaplains, and leaders from St. Margaret’s two hosted community programs, Breakthrough SJC and Special Camp.
St. Margaret’s last completed the accreditation process in 2018.
