Grades 3 and 4 students listened to a guest speaker share an immersive look into the history and culture of California’s Indigenous peoples last week, with a focus on the Acjachemen Nation, which thrived in Southern California long before Spanish colonization.

Led by Jacque Nunez, the session used storytelling and music to introduce Lower School students to traditional tools, instruments, games and clothing. Ms. Nunez also highlighted how Indigenous communities continue to preserve their heritage today, including participation in intertribal powwows.

Through hands-on activities, grades 3 and 4 students gained a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and the role of Indigenous peoples as caretakers of the land.
