Upper School Students Travel to University of California, Berkeley for Chemistry Competition
Upper School students and two faculty members traveled to University of California, Berkeley last weekend to compete in the annual Berkeley Chemistry Tournament.
Eight Upper School students and two faculty members traveled to University of California, Berkeley last weekend to compete in the annual Berkeley Chemistry Tournament.
Upper School science teacher, Andrea Chou and English teacher Kimberly Kim, accompanied the Upper School students at the daylong competition featuring multiple events, including an individual exam, topic exam, lab round and speed round. Student participants were divided into two divisions, Berkelium and Californium.
Misha Dobrynin ‘28 and Nicole Wang ‘28 earned second place in the topic exam category focused on metal-organic frameworks in the Californium division. Ms. Chou added that the metal-organic framework is one of the most iconic research topics at UC Berkeley.
The group of eight students also included Robin Wang ‘26, Riley Bredall ‘27, Amy Yao ‘27, Martin Kovachev ‘28, Sophia Sun ‘28, and Gloria Zhou ‘28.
Following the competition, the Upper School students participated in a UC Berkeley campus tour led by a student guide before returning home.
