Lower School Grades 2-3 Musical Seussical, KIDS Delights Audiences with Whimsical Storytelling
Tartan performers filled the stage with energy, humor and heart as they brought the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss to life.
The Lower School’s production of Seussical, KIDS drew audiences last weekend at the McGregor Family Theatre, where about 75 students in grades 2 and 3 performed in three rotating casts. The young performers filled the stage with energy, humor and heart as they brought the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss to life.
Directed by theater teacher Katie DeShan with musical direction by Lower School music teacher Zach Hanna, the production highlighted the creativity and enthusiasm of the Lower School’s youngest theater students. From lively musical numbers to playful choreography, each cast delivered its own unique interpretation of the beloved story.
Students sang songs such as “The Thinks You Can Think!” and danced across the stage as fish during “It’s Possible,” embracing the show’s themes of kindness, loyalty and the importance of believing in even the smallest voice. The message echoed one of the story’s most memorable lines: “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
Behind the scenes, Technical Director and Resident Designer Gordon Richins and Technical Arts Production Assistant Jeremy Brewer worked alongside student technicians to create the imaginative stage environment that captured the spirit and charm of the Seuss-inspired world. The student technical crew was led by stage manager Arden Kanatsiz and assistant stage manager Claire Chuang.
Ms. DeShan said she was proud of the dedication and enthusiasm shown by the young performers. “I felt so proud watching each of the three casts bring their own joyous energy to the songs and story,” Ms. DeShan said. “I love this show so much, and watching them pour their hearts into every moment was so wonderful.”
