Professional Development Sessions Spotlight Reggio Emilia Approach in Early School

Early School educators have taken part in professional development workshops with a focus on strengthening teaching practices through the Reggio Emilia approach.
Early School educators have taken part in professional development workshops with the California International Reggio Center, continuing a yearlong partnership focused on strengthening teaching practices through the Reggio Emilia approach.

The session was led by educators Federica Lentini, Stefano Fabro and Silvia Bagnacani and marked the latest step in collaboration that began in the fall with a series of virtual and in-person meetings. The ongoing work has emphasized the value of continuous learning within the school’s teaching community.

During the workshop, teachers explored key principles of the Reggio Emilia philosophy while working toward a shared understanding of their pedagogical goals. Educators collaborated on refining the presentation and interpretive language of classroom documentation, a central component of the approach that helps make Early School learning processes visible.

The in-person format allowed teachers to work side by side, fostering discussion and reflection as they examined how documentation can strengthen connections between observation, interpretation and instruction.

Dr. Stefania Rubino expressed that the collaborative environment encouraged reflective practice and reinforced the importance of ongoing professional learning. “The experience highlighted how shared inquiry and partnership can support instructional growth and strengthen teaching in the early years.”
