St. Margaret’s Wins First Place at Orange County Chemistry Olympiad
Upper School students secure first place as a team overall in Orange County, two advanced to the national round.
Last weekend, Upper School chemistry students at St. Margaret’s had a remarkable showing at the Orange County Chemistry Olympiad, competing against 237 students from across Orange County. The competition highlighted the region’s brightest young science students.
Two Upper School students, Riley Bredall and Martin Kovachev advanced to the national round in April at the University of California, Irvine. The day-long event will challenge students with advanced chemistry problems and test their skills against top talent from across the nation.
In addition to Riley and Martin’s individual success, the entire team, which also includes Jay Greaser and Amy Yao, claimed first place overall in Orange County.
Andrea Chou, Upper School science teacher, praised the students’ dedication and hard work. “This team has shown incredible talent and commitment. Their achievement reflects their individual abilities and their teamwork and passion for science,” she said.
St. Margaret’s students will now prepare to represent Orange County at the national competition, where they will face the nation’s best young chemistry students.
