Tartan Surf Tops Crean Lutheran at San Clemente Pier
Scholastic Surf Series competition is in full swing this fall.
The Tartan surf program notched its first win of the Scholastic Surf Series season, downing Crean Lutheran 49-42 at the San Clemente Pier on Oct. 4.
Small waves and light winds made for a great day of surfing as the season got underway. In team competition, Brendan Lyons, Ethan Lavender, Colt Ettwein, Gareth Thomas, Riggins Cetrulo, Von Lundin, Chloe Eskander, and Jacquie Shapiro represented the Tartans in the shortboard heats, with Lyons, Ettwein, Eskander, and Shapiro all advancing.
In the longboard division, Logan Cuda, Marcus Vojtus, Hudson Locke, Chloe Wainwright, and Violet Yoshida hit the lineup, with Cuda and Wainwright advancing. Sawyer Collins competed as the team’s bodyboarder, rounding out a strong showing across all divisions.
In individual results, Sawyer Collins finished 2nd in bodyboard, Brendan Lyons placed 3rd in shortboard, Chloe Wainwright finished 5th in women’s longboard, Logan Cuda earned 2nd in men’s longboard, and in women’s shortboard, Chloe Eskander placed 2nd with Jacquie Shapiro close behind in 4th.
The Tartans return to the water Saturday, Oct. 25, at 9th Street Beach in Huntington Beach.
