Tartans Roll, Down Fountain Valley 24-9

St. Margaret's Football is enjoying a 3-0 start to the season.
St. Margaret's football picked up another early-season win, dropping Fountain Valley 24-9 at home Friday evening.

The Barons struck first, booting a 29-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. The Tartans struggled in their next offensive possession and were forced to punt, pinning Fountain Valley deep in their own end. Sammy Grant-Lewis got the Tartans rolling with a pick-six to put the Tartans ahead 7-3 late in the first quarter.

Fountain Valley's defense contained the Tartans before the Barons added a touchdown in the second quarter. St. Margaret's defense answered the call, stopping a crucial 2-pt conversion attempt and curtailing the Baron's momentum. Quarterback Kai Letcher (19/26, 168 yds 1 TD, 1 INT) took things into his own hands late in the first half, punching in a rushing touchdown to give St. Margaret's a 14-9 lead heading into halftime.

The Tartans never looked back in the second half, blanking the Barons 10-0 behind a Mason Allison (3/3 PAT, 1/1 FG) 37-yard field goal and receiving touchdown from Sam Ludlum (4 rec, 63 yds, TD).

St. Margaret's defense and special teams stifled the Barons all evening. Gavin Taylor (4 tackles, 1 INT, 1 fumble recovery), Sebastian Salazar (19 tackles, 1 fumble recovery), Jack Klausner (12 tackles) and Grant Holcomb (10 tackles) all stood out for the Tartans.

St. Margaret's (3-0) will next face cross-town opponent Capistrano Valley Christian School (1-3) on Tartan Field on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
