Scottie Snack Cart Expands Nutrition Offerings to Every Division

St. Margaret’s welcomed the return of the beloved Scottie Snack Cart last week, now expanded to serve students across all divisions.
St. Margaret’s welcomed the return of the beloved Scottie Snack Cart last week, now expanded to serve students across all divisions from Early School to Upper School. The popular program offers a rotating selection of nutritious fruits and vegetables for students to enjoy during the school day.

Originally launched in 2022 through a PTF grant supporting five years of nutrition education and access to whole foods, the Scottie Snack Cart began as a monthly experience for Lower School students. The cart quickly became a highlight of the school day, promoting healthy eating habits in an engaging, hands-on way.

With its recent return, the cart made its usual stop at the Lower School playground, where students eagerly sampled green apples, dried apricots, and cucumber during their break. Thanks to the program’s success and growing enthusiasm, students in Early School, Middle School, and Upper School will now also be able to try the nutritious food available on the Scottie Snack Cart.

The produce featured on the cart is sourced from local farms and organizations, including The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano, ensuring both freshness and support for the community. To deepen the educational impact, teachers are provided with a slideshow each month that highlights the nutritional benefits of the featured fruits and vegetables.

Distribution of the snacks is made possible by a dedicated team of parent volunteers, whose support has been instrumental in the program’s growth and success. The expanded Scottie Snack Cart initiative reflects St. Margaret’s ongoing commitment to student wellness and nutrition education, one healthy bite at a time.
