Middle School Students Cruise Among the Stars with a Visit to the OCC Planetarium

Middle School Astronomy Club students visited the Planetarium to explore the secrets of the cosmos.
Middle School Astronomy Club students visited the Orange Coast College Planetarium last week to explore the secrets of the cosmos and connect life on Earth to the evolution of the universe. The entire club was able to attend, along with several parents joining the group. For some students, the trip to a planetarium was a first.

Ashley Baffa, Middle School Science Teacher, expressed the valuable learning experience for the students: “I think the most memorable part was an added portion of the show on the auroras we've been experiencing as a result of a recent solar storm. Grade 6 students were also able to make direct connections to many of the concepts we've explored this year in Earth Science.”

The experience provided students insight on how the Sun is at the peak of a tremendous active period and the remarkable way the Earth's magnetic field protects us from these energetic waves.
