Tartans Corral Costa Mesa for 45-12 Homecoming Win

St. Margaret's continued its three-game win streak Friday.
St. Margaret's football program notched its third straight win, downing Costa Mesa 45-12 Friday night in front of an electric homecoming crowd on Tartan Field.
 
Offensively, the Tartans were again led by quarterback Max Ruff (14/19, 183 yds, 2 TD) and running back Matt Arena (8 carries for 100 yds, 2 TD) as St. Margaret's was in the driver's seat all evening long. Receivers Matt Viola (5 catches for 94 yds, 1 TD) and Russell Frye (4 catches for 30 yds, 1 TD) and backs Sam Orellana (7 carries for 71 yds, 1 TD) and Luke Newman (1 carry for 57yds, 1 TD) all found the endzone for the Tartans.
 
Kicker Nathaniel Kim had a successful night, going 3 for 3 on PATs and booting a 29-yard field goal in the second quarter.
 
St. Margaret's defense stifled any Mustang attempt to score until the third quarter, allowing only 98 yards rushing and 42 yards through the air. Battle Gideons led with 7 tackles, while Leo Curran contributed 6. Ethan Sharifian pulled down an interception in the win.
 
The Tartans currently sit at No.2 in the Orange Coast League behind 5-0 Santa Ana. St. Margaret's will look to finish out the league season against Saddleback on Oct. 20 and CC Santa Ana on Oct. 27.
