St. Margaret's Swimmers Successful at CIF Prelims

The Tartans gear up for a finals appearance this Saturday.
This week, eight Tartan swimmers were invited to compete in the prestigious CIF Southern Section Championships at Riverside City College. Over 100 schools are represented in each CIF division, and the top 36 swimmers for each event were invited to race in a preliminary competition this week. Based on performances at the preliminary meet, the top 18 swimmers in each event are invited back to compete in the CIF Championship meet.
 
On Tuesday, Levon Alyanakian, Alejandro Turnbull, Daniel Lyons, and Archer Spindle represented the Tartans in the 200 Medley Relay. With a season-best finish, the boys qualified 14th for Saturday's finals with a time of 1:59.83.
 
Archer Spindle also posted notable individual times in the 50 freestyle (23.88) and 100 freestyle (54.05) to qualify 9th and 18th for finals.
 
Despite Thursday's cold and rainy weather, Lucy Young, Rainbow Li, Zoe Reynolds, and Heidi Tufo shined at their preliminary competition. After a strong finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay, the girls qualified to return in 17th place with a time of 3:57.42.
 
Zoe Reynolds and Heidi Tufo also had impressive individual races. Both girls qualified to return in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Butterfly. Zoe is seeded 4th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.26, and Heidi qualified 10th with a season-best time of 2:18.19. In the 100 Butterfly, Heidi is seeded 8th with a time of 1:01.33 and Zoe qualified 11th with a time of 1:01.75.   
 
All eight Tartan swimmers will compete in the Division III & IV Southern Section Championships beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow, May 6th, at Riverside City College in Riverside.
