Tartan Boys Golf Shines at Orange Coast League Championships
St. Margaret's captured the top seven spots in the final.
St. Margaret's golf program notched a league championship over two days of spectacular play by the Tartans. The Tartans were dominant throughout the tournament, with 7 of 8 St. Margaret's competitors making the cut after the first round with scores below 43. The four golfers recording the lowest scores over 27 holes of play would move on to the CIF-SS Individual Tournament. With everything to play for, Tartans Jack McGrory (-1), Cameron Danz (+1) and Roy Cheng (+2) punched their ticket to postseason play. Keegan Carnell and Mike He, both at +5, tied for the fourth and final spot, necessitating a sudden death playoff.
Carnell and He battled neck and neck through the first hole, landing on the green at the second hole. Both Tartans needed to make a 15-foot putt, with Carnell sinking it to win the fourth postseason spot. He finished in fifth place with Quinn Kyle (+9) and David Jiang (+18) finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
With league play behind them, the Tartans are looking towards a deep run in the CIF-SS Individuals and Div. I team tournaments over the next few weeks.
