St. Margaret's Beach and Boys Volleyball Teams Open CIF Playoffs With Wins
The Tartans jumped out to hot starts in post-season competition.
Boys Volleyball
The Tartans defeated Downey High School 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-20) in the first round of the CIF Div. III Playoffs Thursday evening at home.
Reed Wainwright led St. Margaret's with 23 kills on 33 attempts and 8 digs. Luke Reinkensmeyer (14 kills on 24 attempts) and Shane Aitken (41 assists and 7 digs) were the other top performers for the Tartans.
"I was pleased with how we rebounded from a slow start. We ramped up the defensive intensity in the 2nd game and won some long rallies," said head coach Bob Yoder. "We had great hitting from Wainwright and Reinkensmeyer and a strong setting performance by Shane Aitken."
The Tartans will face Pacifica Christian Orange County on the road in round 2 on Saturday, April 29 at 6 p.m.
Girls Beach Volleyball
St. Margaret's picked up a clutch opening round win, downing Bishop Amat 4-1 Thursday in Huntington Beach.
Winning pairs for the Tartans included Luci Hill/Brady Moseley, Carly Hermann/Eileen Sadati, Sami Duran/Peyton Cruse and Emma Kim/Mimi Spangler.
The Tartans will travel to Ventura to take on Foothill Tech in round 2 of the CIF Div. II playoffs on Saturday, April 29 at 3 p.m.
