St. Margaret's baseball received an excellent sendoff from its four seniors as the Tartans blanked Costa Mesa 3-0 on Thursday.
Senior Andrew Miehe had a historic day on the mound, hurling a school-record 17 strikeouts to blank Costa Mesa. Offensively, he chipped in a double and was further supported by seniors Andrew Golubow (1 for 3, R, SB), Alex Kenny (1 for 3) and Marcelo Cruz-Sanchez (1 for 3, 2B, RBI) to give the Tartans all they had to close out South Coast League play at San Juan Sports Park.
Junior Els Page also went 3-3 with a double to raise his team-leading batting average to .460. Els is now hitting an incredible .548 in league play and is in the running for league MVP.
"Andrew Miehe saved the best outing of his career on the mound in his last appearance for the Tartans," said head coach Scott Wallis. "Going the distance with his first complete game shutout, striking out a record 17 batters, allowing just 2 hits and 0 walks, and touching 90 miles per hour on the radar gun. All four seniors recorded hits and contributed to the victory."
