Tartan Student Achievements: Chemistry Olympiad, Yearbook Awards and More!

Several Upper School students have been recognized for their hard work, having been honored in subjects ranging from chemistry to yearbook to historical research.
Here’s a look at some recent honorees:
Tartans Perform Well at Orange County Chemistry Olympiad
St. Margaret’s had a strong showing in the first round of the Orange County Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) earlier this month in Irvine, the first step in the global International Chemistry Olympiad.
St. Margaret’s had six students participate in the competition—sophomores Ian Ekvall, Grayson Gallegos, Mike He and Andrew Rusli, and freshmen Daniel Chen and Richard Feng.
Overall, 165 students participated in Orange County Chemistry Olympiad, and one Tartan—Andrew Rusli—placed in the top 10 and advanced to take the national test next month at Vanguard University.
There was also a team component, and the St. Margaret’s team of Andrew, Daniel Chen, Richard Feng and Mike He placed fifth out of 37 schools in Orange County. They will honored and receive a plaque at a banquet in May.
The students were mentored by Upper School chemistry teacher Andrea Chou.
Senior’s Academic Paper Accepted for National Publication
Senior Lisa Zhang’s research paper written in the Upper School’s introduction to historical research methods honors course was accepted for publication by the Journal of Student Research
