PHOTOS: St. Margaret’s Day Brings Student Body Together in a Celebration of Love 

St. Margaret’s Day is an annual celebration of the school’s namesake and the history of St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, yet it also serves as an opportunity for the school community to gather in Pasternack Field House with a sense of community, gratitude and love.

Love was the theme of a moving homily at the ceremony by Head of School Will Moseley, who urged Tartans to embrace a spirit of love as the holiday season approaches.  
 
“Love is such a simple word, yet it encompasses so much,” Mr. Moseley said. “In my time here at St. Margaret’s, I have tried to bring forward love as an essential element that binds us all together.”
 
Mr. Moseley cited scientific studies on love and its positive link to health and well-being, and read the First Corinthians, Chapter 13 and its familiar passages on the power of love.  
 
His challenge to St. Margaret’s school community this year?
 
“I believe we have an opportunity during the holiday season and the 40 days between our Thanksgiving break and New Year’s Day to share our love with those around us,” Mr. Moseley said. “I would like to challenge the entire St. Margaret’s community to be thoughtful about our impact on each other and the world around us and to use these 40 days to show gratitude, appreciation and love for ourselves and each other.”
 
St. Margaret’s Day is an annual tradition that celebrates Scotland’s patron saint of education, St. Margaret. The school takes time to recognize St. Margaret as well as The Reverend Canon Ernest Sillers, the founding Head of School who opened St. Margaret’s in 1979. 
 
St. Margaret’s Day also featured readings and prayers by St. Margaret’s chaplains and students, as well as performances by St. Margaret’s band, orchestra and choir students. 
 
In addition, former Head of School Marcus Hurlbut (2003-2013) was in attendance as well as professional community emeriti Marilynn Boyle, Jan Connon, Nancy Linaweaver and Lynn Ozonian.
