Tartans Top Mustangs 56-21 for Second Orange Coast League Win

The Tartans jumped out to a quick start and put away Costa Mesa High School 56-21 for St. Margaret's second league victory on Friday, Oct. 14.
 
Quarterback Max Ruff had a banner night, completing 19 of 22 passes for 451 yards with three touchdowns as well as a rushing touchdown. Ruff had his choice of targets all evening, connecting with Derek Smith (4 catches, 145 yds., 1 TD), Stephen Newman (1 catch, 55 yds., 1 TD), Maverick Young (3 catches, 32 yds., 1 TD), Owen Binder (8 catches, 125 yds.), Andrew Miehe ( 1 catch, 75 yds.) and Sam Dunnell (2 catches, 19 yds.).
 
The Tartan rushing attack was productive all evening with Andrew Miehe (8 carries, 145 yds.), Jordan Denes (4 carries, 28 yds.), Brandon Miller (6 carries, 26 yds.) and Derek Smith (1 carry, 5 yds.) all reaching the endzone.
 
Defensively, the Tartans contained the Mustangs all evening, allowing Costa Mesa only 29 yards rushing. Leading St. Margaret’s in tackles was Sam Dunnell (8), Angel Cruz-Sanchez (4), Stephen Newman (4) and Will Viola (4). Ryan Chin, Nick Clute and Leo Curran each had hands in the two sacks recorded by the Tartans. Drew Otto hauled in an interception while Jonah Mackenzie had a fumble recovery for St. Margaret's.
 
The Tartan kicking game was also perfect all evening, with Marisol Guillena and Nathaniel Kim both going four-for-four on PATs.
 
The Tartans will return home to take on Saddleback in Orange Coast League action on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
