St. Margaret’s 2022 CIF champion boys volleyball team was recognized by city leaders on Tuesday during the San Juan Capistrano City Council meeting.
The recognition took place at the start of Tuesday’s meetings and featured remarks by San Juan Capistrano Mayor Derek Reeve, a presentation of certificates by Mayor Pro Tem Howard Hart, and a few words from St. Margaret’s boys volleyball coach Bob Yoder alongside assistant coaches Trisha Marx and Nick Nordstrom.
“This gives us a chance to recognize not only your accomplishments, but this great and fantastic school that is part of our community,” Mayor Reeve said.
St. Margaret’s finished the year with a 23-8 record, and, with no seniors on last year’s team, expects to return everybody for its title defense in 2023.
With parents, siblings, friends and members of the San Juan Capistrano community in attendance, each student-athlete was called to the front of the City Council Chambers and received a certificate of achievement from the city and an ovation from the meeting attendees.
“It truly is an honor to recognize a group of talented athletes whose sportsmanship and spirit led them to victory by winning the volleyball CIF Southern Section Division IV championship,” Mayor Pro Tem Hart said. “The city celebrates and congratulates you on a job well done.”
