In a festive and joyful ceremony that brought together students, professional community and parents, St. Margaret’s closed the 2021-2022 school year with a celebration of the achievements, accomplishments and milestones attained by both students and professional community this school year.

As with each of the all-school gatherings this year, Wednesday’s All-School Closing Ceremony took place under the sunny skies on Tartan Field, apropos for a summer sendoff. It was a joyous occasion, as the community bid farewell to a memorable school year and looked ahead to celebrations later this week and a restful summer to come. 

Mr. Moseley gave special recognition to the Class of 2022, which will officially graduate during Commencement Exercises at St. Margaret’s on Saturday. Also recognized was the Class of 2026 moving to the Upper School and the Class of 2029 moving to the Middle School.

 

Several important Closing Ceremony traditions continued. Senior Leah Weiss was honored with the David G. Boyle Lifetime Service Award, given to a lifetime Tartan student whose service and dedication to the school best reflects the extraordinary contributions of the late David Boyle, former Associate Head of School, Upper School Principal and Faculty Emeritus who worked at St. Margaret’s from 1980 to 2012. Marilynn Boyle, David’s wife and St. Margaret’s faculty emeritus, joined Mr. Moseley in presenting Leah with the award.

Mr. Moseley also presented the Susan A. Remsberg Award to All-School Counselor Janice Avalone. Dr. Avalone is the third recipient of the award, which is given annually to a member of the St. Margaret’s professional community for outstanding contributions and significant impact on the school community, exemplifying a profound commitment to St. Margaret’s mission and core values in the past year or recent years.

 

He also introduced Kate Cruse and Sasha Kuljis of the Class of 2022, who will serve as alumni class agents in the coming years by partnering with the alumni relations office as members of the Tartan Alumni Association to ensure their classmates’ connection to St. Margaret’s remains strong.

 

The ceremony also honored members of the professional community who are either retiring or celebrating milestone anniversaries at the school. That included Director of Technology and Innovation Lynn Ozonian, who was named Professional Community Emeritus—the highest honor St. Margaret’s bestows on a member of the professional community. 

Mrs. Ozonian, who is retiring after 28 years at St. Margaret’s, received an emeritus certificate as well as the traditional college chair with the St. Margaret’s crest and engraved with her years of service. She was celebrated with a standing ovation from the entire community. 

 

Also honored was Director of the Arts Darcy Rice, who is retiring after 22 years, and Chief Financial and Operating Officer David Bush, who is retiring after 18 years.
