St. Margaret’s performing arts students are being recognized for their work in the Upper School play Our Town and the Upper School musical Mamma Mia in the local awards circuit this spring, as both the Orange County CAPPIES and The Spirit of the Macy Awards announced Tartans among their nominations.
Orange County Cappies
A total of 10 St. Margaret’s students have been nominated and/or commended as part of the upcoming Orange County Cappies awards, for their work both on the stage and behind the scenes in this year’s Upper School productions of Mamma Mia and Our Town.
The nominees and commendees will be given a medallion at a reception this week at Portola High School. They are also given a ticket to the gala which takes place on May 22 at The Grove in Anaheim, where Cappies winners will be announced from the list of nominees.

Stage Management in a Musical: Emma Chang, Jordan Reder, Dean Woods, Mamma Mia
Stage Crew in a Musical: Riley Harrison, Ronin McMahon, Jordan Reder, Grace Williams, Mamma Mia
Lead Actor in a Play: Conrad Kistler, Our Town
Lead Actress in a Musical: Olivia Ostlund, Mamma Mia
St. Margaret’s Commendees: Emma Chang, Michaela McCusker, Jake Reeves, Dean Woods
The Critics and Awards Program (Cappies) is a national student-driven writing and awards program that trains and recognizes high school performing arts and journalism students to be expert writers, critical thinkers and leaders. In addition to attending productions around Orange County and writing reviews for potential publication, Cappies critics also collaborate to choose winners for the county’s Cappies awards.
Spirit of the MACY Awards
Upper School student Maddie Bendzick was named a finalist in the annual Spirit of the MACY Awards for Best Performance by an Actor or Actress. Maddie played Sophie in the Upper School musical Mamma Mia.
Winners of The Spirit of the MACY Awards will be announced at a ceremony on June 5 at the Cerritos Center.
