PHOTOS: Spring Music Concert Brings Talented Tartan Performers Into the Spotlight
St. Margaret’s Middle School and Upper School music program took center stage in the Hurlbut Theater last week. The Spring Music Concert was a culminating event for 229 musicians who have worked hard this year in their music classes.
The concert consisted of 22 total pieces, performed by Grade 6 Choir, Grade 7 Choir, Highlander Chorale, six Highlander Chorale Seniors, Grade 6 Orchestra, Grade 7 Orchestra, Grade 8 and US Orchestra, Grade 6 and 7 Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. The concert began with a massed ensemble opening of Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke” and concluded with two massed numbers, “We Are the World” and “You Will Be Found.”
The music faculty collaborated to bring this combined concert. Choral students were directed by Choral Director Adela Kwan and accompanist Lex Leigh. The Band was under the direction of Chris Carbajal. The Orchestra students were directed by Linling Hsu with support this spring from adjunct faculty Michael Huynh and Eriko Tsuji.
“The concert was a wonderful reminder of the power of live performance,” Director of the Arts Darcy Rice said. “The performance was received by the large audience with enthusiasm and joy. We are grateful for our students to once again make music together in the Hurlbut Theater.”
