Tartans are San Joaquin League Track & Field Champs
St. Margaret's boasts 11 individual league championship athletes.
St. Margaret's had a big day at the San Joaquin League Track & Field Championships at Saddleback College Wednesday afternoon, as the Tartans came away with both boys and girls team titles and crowned 11 athletes as individual league champions at the meet. It was the sixth consecutive league title for both teams and the Tartans end their tenure in the San Joaquin League having never lost a league championship.
"It was incredible how the team came together with one mindset and goal: to win the league titles on both sides," said head coach Edgar Vazquez.
Everett Capelle was also named the San Joaquin League Track Athlete of the Year for winning three individual league titles in the 3200m, 1600m and the 800m.
"The special part about both the team titles is what it took to get here and how this school can accomplish anything when it comes together. Our team consists of multi-sport athletes and several that are currently involved in the arts performances. All of them sacrifice their free time and coordinate their schedules to make this accomplishment possible," said Vazquez. "St. Margaret's is a special place, and I am so proud of our team and how they won with class and humility."
Next up for the Tartans is the CIF Prelim round in Carpinteria on Saturday, May 7.
