PHOTOS: LS Musical The Jungle Book Charms Sold-Out Crowds

The three casts of the Lower School grades 2-3 musical, The Jungle Book, performed to sold-out audiences in the McGregor Family Theater. Each cast had one preview performance and three, 35-minute shows in front of ticketed audiences. The previews were enjoyed by grades 2 and 3, students from the Early School and the professional community. The performances brought parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, and more to enjoy the high-energy production. Health and safety protocols were followed by cast members, production team and audiences.

The cast members were dressed head to toe in colorful and creative costumes created in 2015 by Melinda Keane and coordinated this spring by Michelle Hanna. The costumes included a boa constrictor performed by five actors representing the heads and coils of the snake.

The Lower School production is traditionally run by Middle School technical arts volunteers, and this year was no exception. There were six students on the tech crew under the oversight of Technical Director and Resident Designer Gordon Richins and PAC Production Assistant Spencer Keane. The tech crew included Lauryn Harris, grade 6, as Stage Manager and Keagan Pichardo, grade 6, as Asst. Stage Manager.

According to director Darcy Rice, “Because of the circumstance of the last two years, for almost all of the cast members involved, this was the first time they participated in a musical theater production. As such, it was really fun to observe the process of discovery.” The production was musically directed by Lower School music teacher Zach Hanna.
