‘The 2022 I Hope For’ – Upper School Looks Ahead at Moving Honors Assembly

St. Margaret’s Upper School celebrated academic excellence and the pursuit of achievement and self-improvement last week at the Honors Assembly, which centered around the theme of “The 2022 I Hope For.”

 

“This theme is really about you reflecting on what you value and what you hope for in the days and months ahead,” Upper School Principal Jeneen Graham said. “It is also a reminder that we as humans have the amazing capacity to imagine what the future will hold and work toward that end.”

 

The assembly featured two senior speakers, Max Page and Xitlalic Rojas, who shared their thoughts on looking ahead to 2022 with optimism and hope.

 

“To me, it’s most important to believe in yourself and your ability to improve your tomorrow,” Max said. “Especially when facing challenging circumstances, belief in yourself and reassuring yourself that “you got this” allows me to live and fight with confidence and joy. This mental habit shift will have a massive impact on your present and future life.”

 

Xitlalic talked about the journey of self-acceptance and the importance of love and compassion. She said, “Moving forward, I hope for love, compassion and kindness in 2022, and I challenge every single one of you to be willing to really listen to someone else. Most times in conversations we are naturally good at talking about ourselves, but do not take a moment to really listen to others. So, I challenge you to be the first to approach someone you never talked to before or genuinely ask someone how they are doing.”

 

The assembly also featured a talented Tartan artist, sophomore Riley Harrison, who shared a short film based on the poem “On Evening” by Eliza and Sarah Wolcott.
