Tartan Artists and Writers Honored in 2022 Regional Scholastic Awards

The creativity of St. Margaret’s talented artists and writers were honored in the 2022 Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, as Tartans won 83 art awards and 34 writing awards in the West Coast Regional At-Large Divisions. Among those were 23 Gold Key winners, which will be forwarded for judging in the national competition.
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards has recognized art and writing works in 28 different categories for students grades 7-12. Judges look for work that best exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Gold Keys are considered “the very best works submitted to local programs.”
St. Margaret’s had 14 Gold Key winners in art categories, along with 31 Silver Key winners and 38 honorable mentions.
The 14 Gold Keys were works from 13 different students. Junior Caroline Otterbein won two Gold Keys for her photography pieces, titled “Palms” and “Together We Will See It Through.”
Other Gold Key winners were Liesel Blau, Evan Causee, Emely Ceballos, Kevin Chou, Alexa Christensen, Neela Gerayli, Emma Griffin, Brandon Saiki, Madeline Scott, Ryder Shaw, Brennan Sullivan and Angelina Wang.
