St. Margaret's announces today the appointment of Curt Lee as head coach of the Tartan girls beach volleyball program.

Lee, currently the owner of Savvy Beach Volleyball Club in San Clemente, joins St. Margaret's as coach of the beach volleyball program in its inaugural season. Lee has 20 years of experience in competitive development and is skilled at introducing new methodologies and technologies to optimize student-athlete interest and performance. Through Saavvy, Lee provides the finest technical instruction in beach volleyball to allow players to learn to play at the highest levels.

Lee, a member of California State University Long Beach's 1998 College World Series team, went on to play professional baseball, most recently for the Gary South Shore Railcats in 2005 and in the Miami Marlins system in 2003.

Coach Lee holds a National Federation of High School Associations coaching certification.

"I'm excited to be a part of such a great culture at St Margaret's," said coach Lee. "I can't wait to get in the sand and introduce beach volleyball to our student-athletes. I am looking forward to exposing them to a new competitive experience and opportunities with an exciting growing sport."

"Curt Lee is a great addition to the coaching staff at St. Margaret's," said Director of Athletics Chris Nordstrom. "His experience not only as a teacher of beach volleyball but also his time spent as a collegiate and professional athlete will be of great service to our student-athletes."

The Tartans will embark on a new venture this spring, competing in beach volleyball for the first time ever against programs from Estancia High School, CC Santa Ana, Costa Mesa High School, Crean Lutheran and Ocean View High School. St. Margaret's will match up against Estancia on Wednesday, March 9.

"I am excited to add beach volleyball to the athletics program," said Nordstrom. "The ability to provide opportunities to our student-athletes is an important part of Tartan athletics."
