Boys Basketball and Boys Soccer Celebrate Seniors With League Victories
Basketball and soccer notched crucial league wins Thursday evening.
St. Margaret's boys basketball and soccer programs picked up league wins Thursday, facing off against Fairmont Prep SJC and Sage Hill School, respectively.
Boys Basketball
On Thursday evening, the Tartans defeated visiting Fairmont Prep SJC 81-28 in Pasternack Field House. The Tartans kept the Huskies scoreless during the first half, tying a St. Margaret's record.
Dylan Cormac led the offense for St. Margaret's with 30 points while TJ Pavia (12 pts.) and Cody Kim (10 pts.) supported the win.
The Tartans also recognized their senior class of Dylan Cormac, James Jiang, Cody Kim, Owen Muhlon and Trey Kingsley for all of the hard work they have dedicated in support of the basketball program.
"It was a great night to celebrate our five seniors," said head coach Chris Nordstrom. "They have been an asset to our program and the school community at large."
Boys Soccer
St. Margaret's bested league rival Sage Hill School Thursday, coming away with a 5-1 road win over the Lightning.
The Tartans were led by Matt Groeninger's three goals and one assist, while Keyon Namdar and Shane Olvera-Harle added a goal and an assist each. Hayden Mann contributed two assists and goalkeeper Justin O'Donnell had three saves in the win.
"We set a clear standard of development that cannot go unrecognized; using channels is a great way to work out individual and collective field positioning both offensively and defensively, and it also provides our players a real focal point to work off," said head coach Bryan Wallace. "The boys displayed and executed this perfectly last night versus Sage Hill School."
The victory also celebrated the contributions of St. Margaret's seniors Alexander Fournier, Matt Groeninger, Jarrett Haft, Peter Mack, Justin O'Donnell and Shane Olvera-Harle to the program's success.
The Tartans will face Avalon High School at Avalon on Monday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m.
