The Tartans defeated Calvary Chapel Downey 75-36 to capture the CC Downey Tournament Championship. Dylan Cormac was named tournament MVP, while Russel Frye earned an All-Tournament nod. The championship run followed up a second-place finish for the Tartans at the Buena Park Tournament the week prior, where Dylan Cormac was named to the All-Tournament team for his play at Buena Park.
Cormac has been a talisman for the Tartans, averaging 27.5 points per game and shooting over 50% from the 3-point line. Frye, a point guard for St. Margaret's, boasts a 4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, while Cody Kim has maintained a 60% shooting percentage from the field.
The Tartans have been relying on a talented sophomore class in early-season action. Drew Bowman, Cameron Danz and Reed Wainwright have been stellar alongside Frye against talented opponents.
"We are happy with where we are at this point, but not satisfied," said head coach Chris Nordstrom, "There are a lot of areas we will need to improve in to prepare for league play, and I believe this team has the proper mindset to make these improvements."
The Tartans return to action against Fallbrook High School on the road on Saturday, Dec. 18.
