PHOTOS: PTF Partners With The Ecology Center for Fun Seasonal Workshop
It was the first in a series of seasonal workshops planned for this school year in conjunction with the Parent Up Speaker Series.
In connection with the Parent Up Speaker Series, the Parent Teacher Fellowship hosted St. Margaret’s parents at The Ecology Center this week for a fun workshop putting together hand-tied flower arrangements.
It was the first in a series of seasonal workshops planned for this school year in conjunction with the Parent Up Speaker Series and its focus on mental health and well-being, which kicked off last week with Dr. Lisa Damour. The Ecology Center event was led by Parent Up Speaker Series Chair Carrie Quintanar, and more than 50 parents took part.
Participants enjoyed the sunshine while connecting over a light breakfast of coffee, pastries, and farm fresh fruit. Amanda Mahaffey of The Ecology Center then led the group on a tour of the grounds while describing the important work conducted on the 28-acre regenerative organic farm. Afterwards, resident florist Carra Duggan discussed the different varieties of flowers grown on the property and demonstrated how to select and position flowers for a loose hand-tied arrangement. The St. Margaret’s parents then went to work, selecting flowers and creating their own stunning arrangements. It was a wonderful chance for parents to gather, spend some time in nature and strengthen their mental health and well-being.
St. Margaret’s has a longtime partnership with The Ecology Center, which has included service learning projects, field trips and other initiatives.
The next Parent Up Speaker Series is scheduled for January 28 featuring Dr. Wendy Suzuki, while the PTF’s next workshop at the Ecology Center is planned for early December. Stay tuned for more details.
