St. Margaret's football program improved to 3-4 with a 60-20 win over visiting Castaic High School on Friday, Oct. 8.
The Tartans were led offensively by quarterback Jack Ruff's 109 yards passing with three touchdowns and 35 yards rushing with two touchdowns. St. Margaret's backfield had a big night, with Sebastian Chicas rushing for 96 yards on nine carries. Matt Arena (51 yds on six carries) and Makai Todd (12 yds on one carry) kept things moving for the Tartans. Todd also got it done in the air, hauling in three touchdown receptions and 58 yards on the night. Will Stahl (one catch for 34 yds) and Derek Smith (one catch for 17 yds) contributed for the Tartans.
St. Margaret's kicking game was stellar all evening, with Sean Olvera-Harle going 4/4 on PAT's and adding a 36-yard field goal. In addition, Marisol Guillena and Nathaniel Kim both added extra points.
On the defensive side of the ball, Andrew Miehe recorded nine tackles while Makai Todd (8 tackles) and Will Stahl (6 tackles) supported. Tyler Matthews returned an interception for a 30-yard touchdown, and Sebastian Chicas caused a fumble and recorded a sack in the win.
Special teams was the difference-maker for St. Margaret's, with Derek Smith taking a 79-yard kickoff return to the house late in the first half. Sean-Olvera Harle and Trey Kingsley had field goal blocks, with Olvera-Harle's resulting in a Maverick Young 75-yard return for a score.
The Tartans will return to Tartan Field for Homecoming on Friday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. to face CVCS.
