PHOTOS: 2021 Coffee House Cabaret Showcases Student Artistry in Music, Dance and Spoken Word
The 90-minute Coffee House Cabaret featured 17 acts by students who selected, wrote or choreographed their own performances.
St. Margaret’s 18th annual Coffee House Cabaret went virtual in 2021. This reimagined format succeeded in highlighting the talents of Upper School performers in music, dance and spoken word. The livestream event was viewed by patrons throughout California and in eight states.
Hosted by St. Margaret’s band director Chris Carbajal, the 90-minute Coffee House Cabaret featured 17 acts, including vocal performances of contemporary and classical music, instrumental pieces featuring the piano, drums, saxophone, guitar, melodica and more, a dance solo and an original spoken word performance. Students selected, wrote or choreographed their own performances. Coffee House Cabaret director Carbajal introduced each performance, often providing the motivation behind each of the student’s selections. This year the Coffee House Cabaret Band, comprised of 11 musicians, provided the opening number.
This year’s production received ample praise and positive feedback from performer families and others. Viewers commented not just on the high quality of the performers’ talent, but also upon the professionalism of the editing and videography of the actual production. There was also positive feedback for the virtual good luck grams performers received and the interactive addition of a Wall of Applause at the conclusion of each Cabaret.
St. Margaret’s would like to thank all of the student performers, all of our virtual audience members, the PTF Arts Alliance and PTF Arts Alliance Chair Jennifer Blau.
