Amazing! St. Margaret’s Band Students Collaborate on Memorable Performance of Rocky Theme Song

An incredible #tARTanspiration was put together by St. Margaret’s Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble A and Jazz Ensemble C students—a fantastic performance of the classic song of perseverance, grit triumph: “Gonna Fly Now” from the soundtrack to the 1976 film Rocky.

St. Margaret’s Band Director Chris Carbajal created the arrangement and click track custom-tailored for each student. Then the students recorded their parts separately on their smartphones, doing multiple takes to perfect their part.

Mr. Carbajal and and film teacher Karen Bennett took the student audio and videos and brought them together for this incredible film with some evocative and emotional images of the Class of 2020 band students, as well.

“I’m so proud of their ability to pivot, rise to the occasion and create despite social distancing,” Mr. Carbajal said. “What’s more, this is a very special group of seniors as many of them were in my Band starting in 4th grade. I will miss them!
