Message From Head of School Will Moseley

Dear St. Margaret’s Community,
We have experienced a painful week of turmoil and unrest in our nation after another unconscionable act of injustice, and I know that we in the St. Margaret’s community are hurting too. Everything we are as an Episcopal community with the knowledge and understanding that God loves all his children unconditionally is injured by any act of inequity and injustice. We are each called upon to strive for justice and peace among all people, and to respect the dignity of every human being.
As an educational institution, I believe the change we seek is in our work at St. Margaret’s toward equity, inclusion and justice, and it is never more important than right now. Though our hearts are broken and our souls are damaged, we will heal and make progress by digging deeper into our cultural competency work, respecting the value and experience of each person, striving for understanding, listening to different viewpoints, navigating uncomfortable conversations and creating new constructs, because we know with God’s love for us and our brothers and sisters that we can and will impact real change and uphold the best manifestations of our beliefs and aspirations for all people.
We as a nation have struggled to get this right so far, yet as Gandhi guided, it begins with each of us and we must be the change we wish to see in the world. Our young people are especially oriented toward this work, and the conviction I have today and the hope I have for tomorrow lies in the promise of our future in their hands. This is our collective ‘why’ in the education of the hearts and minds of our students for lives of learning, leadership and service.
